International
On March 19, the Basque Energy Cluster, in collaboration with Basque Trade & Investment, organised a welcome session for many of the international delegations attending the WindEurope Bilbao 2024 event. Among those attending were delegations from Scotland, Wales, England, the Netherlands, Turkey, Poland and Japan. The Basque Energy Cluster also organised a number of tours of the Wind Energy Basque Country exhibition hall for some of these delegations on the subsequent days of the fair.
During the week that started on March 18, Bilbao became the focus of the world’s wind energy sector due to the WindEurope event, an international event of reference for every country and company involved in the sector. Due to its international nature, Basque Trade & Investment, co-organised a welcome event for the international delegations prior to the trade fair on March 19 at the Euskalduna Conference Centre, in conjunction with the Basque Energy Cluster.
The event brought together more than 250 representatives from the wind energy sector, most of them from various countries around the world, but also Basque companies, with the aim of creating a networking space after the scheduled presentations.
The Energy Cluster outlined Basque capabilities in the sector and the potential for developing floating wind power at a national level. Meanwhile, representatives from Poland, Turkey, England, Scotland, and Wales presented the prospects and opportunities for offshore wind energy in their respective countries. The companies Iberdrola and Baltic Towers shared their view of the market from a private company perspective.
Over the three subsequent days of the WindEurope fair, the Basque Energy Cluster provided these delegations with the opportunity to learn more about the 50 or so companies exhibiting in the Wind Energy Basque Country hall. To this end, it organised four tours for delegations from Northern Ireland, Scotland, Belgium and Japan, during which it explained the capabilities of Basque companies in the wind energy sector, and visited each of the stands, explaining the work that these companies do in the sector. This gave the delegations a first-hand look at the work of large and small Basque companies and provided these companies with an opportunity to make themselves known to the companies from the international delegations.
Throughout the event, the Energy Cluster also organised a B2B space in collaboration with BasqueTrade, EEN and Spri, using the B2match tool, an online platform where international and Basque companies were able to meet and hold physical meetings in a room set up for this purpose at WindEurope. In total, more than 100 meetings were organised between companies.
